Elton John and Billy Joel have canceled the summer leg of their joint tour because the Piano Man wants to take some time off. John told The Chicago Tribune that Joel has decided to take a year off, forcing the cancellation of their scheduled outing.
John, who was in Chicago promoting the musical “Billy Elliot,” told the local media he was bitterly disappointed that he and Joel would not be performing July 7 at Wrigley Field as planned.
“As far as I know, there will be no more Billy and Elton shows after the Albany show in New York on March 11th,” John said during an interview with WGN-TV in Chicago.
“It’s not my decision, it’s Billy’s,” John said. “He has decided to take a year off. It doesn’t gel with my plans but he’s a friend. And as an artist, you have to respect his decision.”
