CD Review: TelluRide – Four Square Miles

After having the chance to sit and talk with these guys recently in a 1-on-1 inteview, I am back to talk about their debut album, Four Square Miles.  This album is being thrown into the country category but has a lot more than that in its tracks.  You have a dash of rock, a hint of pop, and a country undertone that brings this album together.  Most artists that try to mix that many styles into one album fail.  Well, TelluRide has most definitely not failed.  With this debut album they are not only making a strong name for themselves in the music industry but are also letting us all know that they are not going anywhere any time soon.

The album, released on December 8th of last year, has been making its way up the charts.  The album starts with a track titled “Phone Call” that has you up out of your seat dancing and humming the beats.  Talking about cell phones and collect calls you are thrown right into the memories that helped write this song.  Having the country twang that you expect for greats like Kenny Chesney and Keith Urban you can actually hear these guys right next to said acts.  These guys are already playing a ton of shows and the number will continue to grow as their talent hits more and more ears.

One of my favorite tracks, “Stay”, brings in some love.  You can’t have a country album without love, right?  The lyrics are written from someone’s heart and you know can tell the truth in his voice.  You are hit with some more of that twang here as well.  “So won’t you stay with me and don’t ever leave this warm bed,” puts you in the corner of that bedroom watching those lovers roll in the sheets.

The title track is something that everyone can relate to.  You can remember the nights of your high school Friday Night lights, the long work weeks with nothing but the weekend to look forward to.  You can smell the and the freshly cut grass and the empty beer cans in those four square miles that we all used to live in.  One thing that impresses me about these guys is their ability to pull me into the lyrics.  Not only are their instrumentals the level of anyone in the market, their lyrics fit right there with the best in the industry.

Only having 11 tracks to sort through you are never left without a true sense of the word talent.  I would seriously put these guys right next to the best in the business.  They continue to impress me and I am excited to see what is next.  They simply do have the whole package.  They have the look, the sound, the lyrics; simply everything to get them on the top.  This is exactly where I see this band going too.  I look forward to seeing where they are say, six months from now.  Do I hear a CMA in there?
