Interview: 1-on-1 with Rick Sparks of Indy House Concerts

Tori Sparks

I am sitting today with a man who has a vision.  His vision involves turning his living room into a concert venue and is doing just that On Saturday, April 25th, 2009.  He will feature a fan favorite of Indyconcerts.com, Tori Sparks, as she makes her away across the country on her current nation wide tour.  She brings a sense of pure talent to the stage as she sings of truth and experience and will touch you with every song she sings.  Sit with me today as I bring to you the man that has brought Tori to the Indianapolis.

When did you first decide to turn your living room into a concert venue?

When Tori Sparks asked me if I would host her in a house concert.

Are you and Tori related?

No, we are not.  But she calls me her brother from another mother.

Where did you first hear about Tori?

I heard Tori at another house concert.

What concert was that?

It was about a year ago in Indianapolis.  It was at the Indy Hostel.

What sort of preparation do you have to put into a concert like this?

I have been contacting everyone I know that I think would be interested.  I am making sure that the living room will seat everyone comfortably.  I am going to have a professional sound guy there to make sure that everything sounds good.  We are going to have some great food and drinks as well.

What will this event cost general public?

We are doing a $10 donation at the door.   This will serve as payment for the artist and all money will go toward Tori Sparks.

So how many fans will your living room hold?

The living room will hold thirty people.

How do I get tickets?

Contact me  rixparx@hotmail.com to make a reservation, I will confirm it, and upon confirmation I will provide the address.  Payment will be received at the door.

What was the last house concert that you attended?
Within the last month I saw Stella and Jane in Bloomington.

What has your reception been to your friends in the music industry?

People seem to be really excited about it.  They see Tori as a dynamic young artist.

Do you utilize the Internet at all for promotions?

Yes, I am registered at www.concertsinyourhome.com.

You won’t make Tori clean up after everyone has left will you? (Laughs)

No, no, I will take care of that.

Do you have plans of continuing to host artists in your living room?

Yes, I would like to establish Indy House Concerts as a regular series.

What else do fans need to know about Tori’s upcoming show?

Anyone that is attending will simply be blown away at how powerful of a performance they will see.  She brings a lot of energy and doesn’t hold back.  And in an intimate focused setting like this, it will prove to be a great show.

In keeping with tradition I always let the artist get the last word.  So why not the man behind the artist.  Go.

If you have never been to a house concert, do not miss this one.  And if you have ever been to a house concert, don’t miss this one.
