It was a beautiful night on the lawn last Sunday for a great concert by John Mayer and The Avett Brothers. A set that drew largely from his latest album, Battle Studies, which, lets be honest, is way different, and maybe…not as great, as his other stuff, Mayer still managed to put on a show with enough variety to please even the most fair-weather fan (see complete set-list below). Last night, the State Fair went hip-hop. A stage that typically sees the biggest names in country music was instead taken over by one of hip-hop’s most rising stars: Drake. After support from Tino, Jumpsmokers, New Boyz, and Iyaz, Drake finally took the stage around 10:00 P.M. and opened strong with “Forever,” a collaborative single Drake did earlier this year with Lil Wayne, Eminem, and Kanye...

John Mayer just might be my favorite artist of all time. This fall, Kings of Leon will release their fifth studio album, Around Sundown, on October 19 as a follow up to the very successful LP, Only by the Night. Kings have been testing out new tracks from the album for crowds all summer long, and apparently, reactions have been good. It’s happening again. One of summer’s biggest weekends in music is upon us. Lollapalooza, a three day outdoor music festival held downtown in Chicago’s Grant Park, begins this Friday, August 6th, and doesn’t stop until late Sunday night, August 8th. The Lawn comes back to life next month with the Honda Civic Tour. On Thursday, August 19 at 6:30 P.M. Paramore, along with special guest Tegan and Sara, will perform canal-side downtown at White River State Park. Ticket info here. Paramore’s been around for a while, but I’m thinking this fresh new comeback might have had something to do with their music being featured on the Twilight Soundtrack....
