Cut Copy Rocks The Vogue, Indianapolis Monday 9/19/2011

Cut Copy Rocks The Vogue, Indianapolis Monday 9/19/2011
As I headed in to The Vogue yesterday night, I was bubbling with energy and excitement to see one of my all-time favourite groups live for the first time since they became a huge hit in 2008, Cut Copy! The first thing I decided to do though, was rather than head straight to the front of the stage, as per usual, I figured I would get myself a more interesting perspective of the entire crowd at The Vogue...

A show that Breathes life into the local Music Scene featuring Hawthorne Heights

A show that Breathes life into the local Music Scene featuring Hawthorne Heights
Friday night at the ES jungle in Broadripple a show unlike any other went down. Shows always have their elements of greatness. However it is a rare occasion where you have a show that refreshes you and reminds you what a scene is about, the Hawthorn Heights show and the local line up leading up to them was that reminder. We Came From Nowhere kicked things off for the night, they were a little harder...

Guest Writer Brad Mannix w/ Something Old, Something New From Wilco, Murat Concert
Indianapolis–Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Hank Williams… Jeff Tweedy? It’s no doubt by now that Tweedy belongs in the pantheon of great American songwriters while amassing an impressive resume of songs during his tenure in Uncle Tupelo and his venture of the past 17 years, Wilco.   The band played ripped through a set filled with crowd favorites like “Hand Shake Drugs,” “Hummingbird,”...

Concert Review: Elton John Doesn’t skip a Beat

Concert Review: Elton John Doesn't skip a Beat
Elton John is perhaps one of the best artist to have ever existed. He is a genius when it comes to lyrics and has written some of the best songs in the industry. He is timeless, one of those artist that never gets old and whose music gets past down from generation to generation. More than that he has proven time and time again that he has staying power, still playing to nearly sold out crowds decades...

Concert Review: Darius Rucker at The Carmel Palladium

Concert Review: Darius Rucker at The Carmel Palladium
Darius Rucker delivered a hit show for an energetic crowd at The Carmel Palladium last Friday, September 9th. Darius Rucker has graced the Hoosier State three times in the past year, but never as a headliner. Well, all of that changed last Friday night at The Carmel Palladium in Indianapolis’ northside neighbor. The Grammy-winning baritone, best known as the front man for ‘90s pop-rock group Hootie...

Concert Review: Honda Civic Tour

Concert Review: Honda Civic Tour
“…well I guess this is growing up.”-Blink-182 (“Dammit”) But trust me, it’s more fun if you don’t. Last Saturday, the Honda Civic Tour rolled through the Verizon Wireless Music Center.  For this year’s annual tour, they brought a special treat for its 10th anniversary: a co-headlining tour featuring Blink-182 (returning for the first time since...

Concert Review: Guster, Jack’s Mannequin and Lady Danville at White River Park

Can I just say how much I love Jack’s Mannequin? Well I do, I love them and I am so happy that I was able to see them alongside Guster at White River Lawn on Monday, August 29th.  Of course, many of you who attended were there to see Guster, but I was there to see Jack’s Mannequin as well as Augustana, who, unfortunately had to cancel their tour with the bands due to circumstances out of their...

Concert Review: Incubus, If Not Now, When? Tour at Verizon Wireless on Tuesday, August, 23rd

Concert Review: Incubus, If Not Now, When? Tour at Verizon Wireless on Tuesday, August, 23rd
The first time I ever saw Incubus live was when Lollapalooza traveled and was at Verizon Wireless in 2003.  A long time listener of the band, I was overjoyed when I saw them.  I was a Freshman in college and their music instilled in me a sense of freedom and untamed passion that I felt other music didn’t or couldn’t provide for me.  At that time in my life, their music definitely expressed...

Protected Left, The Slappies, Giraffes Eating Lions, Belligerent Bendajos @ The Vollrath

Protected Left, The Slappies, Giraffes Eating Lions, Belligerent Bendajos @ The Vollrath
Protected Left is a punk/metal/thrash band from Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo MI.  Members are Chad, Jose, and Mario.   Socially conscious at the level of a folk band they still maintain the fun beats of a punk band.  They had an interesting reggae punk mix with their song “Fuck Religion” which they pulled off nicely.  I always enjoy watching a band that pushes the limits of their music but does...

9th Circle Symphony, Children of October, Aaron Omen, and Black Cat Symphony @ The Vollrath

9th Circle Symphony, Children of October, Aaron Omen, and Black Cat Symphony @ The Vollrath
9th Circle Symphony is a progressive black metal band from Indianapolis.  Members are Dru Cadaver – Vocals, Kurt Fester – Bass, Juan Acosta – Guitar, Niq Arcana – Keys, Blane Slaven – Drums, and David Heckman – Guitar.  This is a very young band, this was their second show, but they have a set list full of original material.  They are creative with their military...
