Teneia Sanders and Raining Jane on August 6 @ The Irving
One of the benefits to my job is the people I meet. I am not talking about the bands this time; this is about the random fans I meet. Many I times talk my way into an empty seat at a table with strangers to review and end up striking up a conversation. We talk music at first of course but sometimes I get lucky and find a new friend to attend concerts. Saturday was a planned girl’s night out...
Kevin Crafton, Luke Knight, Wolves Where, Collecting Clouds, and Apex Predator on July 31 @ The Vollrath
Kevin Crafton is a folk rock artist from Indianapolis. His band, The High Tide, was on that night, Ryan Puett – guitar, Andrew Wahnsiedler – bass, and Conner Baine – drummer. Before he played, Kevin said he missed the old rock and roll and wanted to bring it back. He certainly does. Back to the era when the upbeat music made you want to dance and you could sing along to the...
Remedy for the Fallen, Midwest State of Mind, Syn Aestesia, Alter Ego, and Deadman’s Grill @ The Irving
Sometimes I plan, mark it down on my coffee stained battered calendar, confirm on Facebook and still miss important details. Like the concert has been moved up an hour. Eeeeek! I missed the first two bands.
I have not been to The Irving for this kind of show before. Usually it is an Americana or folk music. Lazy Hawk built and brought this show together. This was an all age venue and there...
Concert Review: Dudefest After-Party @ The Vollrath
The Vollrath held the after-party for the Dudefest Friday and Saturday. Both nights a standing room only crowd continued their heavy metal love fest. This music has a following, you can talk to their fans and they can rattle off a history of their favorite local bands.
Now I do not go out of my way to hear this kind of music. In fact, on nights like it all blends because there are so many bands. ...
The Songwriter’s Circle Review July 29
Last night at The Irving Theater, I attended my first Songwriter’s Circle. The four talented songwriters gathered up by Robin Coleman made it a priority on my future calendar. Jessi Curtis, Cari Ray, Tim Wilsbach, and Nick Ivanovich brought their A game. There was a nice easy flow of song set ups, fellow artist admiration, and humor mixed in with songs you wanted to hear again and again.
Jessi...
Bright Eyes at the Murat
When I first started this internship, this is the one concert I begged to go to. I know I am a bit out of the age demographics to be a Conor junkie but I have been for years. It could be the clever lyrics he weaves, his voice he manipulates for further conveyance, or I will admit he is pretty damn cute for a youngster. Needless to say, I was pretty excited when I got to the go ahead to attend.
This...
Concert Review: My Morning Jacket at White River State Park
My Morning Jacket rolled into town on Sunday night, having just played Lollapalooza the previous night, to perform at White River State Park for local Hoosier fans as well as the “Jacketheads” that followed them from Chicago. My Morning Jacket, also known as MMJ, is regarded as one of the best live bands of my generation and with good reason too.
After watching their opening band Neko Case,...
Mayhem Festival-Verizon Wireless Music Center
Blood, sweat, and cheers! The pits of bodies flying in front of every stage raged full of adrenaline, excitement, and adoration for every performance that took the stages of Mayhem. Kevin Lyman’s Mayhem Festival was nothing short of what I promised, a swift kick in your Metal rear end. This was not a show for the week hearted nor the frailest of eardrums. The sun tries every year to test the...
Concert Review: Firecracker, Josh Turner, Only Mildly Ignites the Stage at Hoosier Park
Josh Turner graced Hoosier Park with his deep and soulful voice that can make any female with a pulse go weak in the knees. On the road for his Haywire 2011 Tour, Josh played such hits as “Firecracker,” “Why Don’t We Just Dance,” “I Wouldn’t Be a Man,” “Eye Candy” and “Haywire.” These tunes caught a rise from the crowd, as well as myself, and we all rose from our chairs...
Taking Back Sunday and Thursday Rocked Indianapolis this past Friday
It is a rare occasion that one gets to see two of their all time favorite bands in one night. It’s an even rarer occasion when one bad is celebrating a ten year anniversary of one of their greatest albums of all time and the other band reunites to the original line up that made you fall in love with them in the first...
