Country stars Sugarland rolled into the Indiana State Fair on Friday night and put on an outstanding show. Traveling to promote their upcoming album, “The Incredible Machine,” the talented duo played through a number of their previous hits and also gave listeners a taste of their new material.
Opening act Little Big Town performed quite well, showcasing the solo vocal abilities of each band member while blending them all together to form their trademark harmonies. They also have an upcoming album due for release this fall, but it was their hits “Little White Church” and “Boondocks” that received the most attention from the crowd.
Sugarland’s set was highlighted by fan favorites such as “It Happens,” “Want To,” and “Something More.” Quick covers of everyone from Beyonce to Neil Diamond to the Bee Gees delighted the crowd, but the obvious choice for song of the night was “Stay,” the tale of a woman at the wrong end of a love triangle. The audience sang along with every word, at times even drowning out the strong voice of vocalist Jennifer Nettles. Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable show. The band gave their fans a taste of their new material without ever shoving it down their throats, and played through nearly every hit of their decorated career. The show moved quickly and effortlessly, with fans at a fever pitch all the way through to the end. It was a fantastically fun way to end an outstanding concert series at this year’s state fair.
