I’m 22. The songs that I consider “old school” music, my little brother has never even heard of-or of the artists that sang them. It’s depressing, really. But every once in a while, those artists make a comeback…and I don’t feel so old anymore.
It seems I’m not alone.
Train, of recent “Hey, Soul Sister” fame took to the stage on Wednesday, March 31 to an incredibly diverse crowd. The floor was packed with fans ranging from 10- to 50-year-olds that swayed and screamed along as Train rocked the house with older hits “Calling All Angels” and ”Drops of Jupiter.” They continued on to play songs from their newest album: “Save Me San Francisco” as well as their first hit in 9 years. When the first few notes of Hey, Soul Sister” rang out, the audience just knew. There was not a silent voice in the house. The group also performed “If It’s Love” with lyrics provided on a big screen.
Train deserves kudos for having one of the most interactive shows I’ve ever seen. He did it all. He crowd surfed, picked a girl out of the audience to sing and dance with, invited 6 little girls onstage to be his “Trainnettes” and more. Though I couldn’t help feeling taht the concert was entirely too short, train exited the stage leaving the audience content.
I loved “Drops of Jupiter” as a middle schooler, ”Calling All Angels” as a high schooler, and now am completely hooked on “If its Love.” Train, it seems, has music for all the ages, from pre-teens to middle-aged mothers.
