The Red-Headed Stranger, who’s in the running for Best Traditional Pop Album and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals alongside Norah Jones for “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” returns to the stage Jan. 7 in El Paso. Since last check, 21 concerts have been added to the winter itinerary, pushing the road trip into mid-April with a total of 30 performances planned. The current schedule runs through an April 17 show at Florence, AZ’s Country Thunder Festival. Details are below.
Willie Nelson unveiled “American Classic,” his first solo effort for the Blue Note label, in August. The 12-track set, which peaked at No. 14 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, features his backing band–Mickey Raphael (harmonica), Joe Sample (piano), Christian McBride (bass) and Lewis Nash (drums)–as well as guest vocalists Diana Krall (“If I Had You”) and Norah Jones (“Baby It’s Cold Outside”).
“American Classic” marks the Nelson’s first collection of American standards since his 1978 release, “Stardust.” That record was ranked No. 257 on Rolling Stone’s 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
Nelson will learn the fate of his Grammy nods when the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards take place Jan. 31 at Los Angeles’ Staples Center. The ceremony will air live on CBS stations nationwide.
