Just up the road 30 minutes north of Indianapolis is the place to find the heart and soul of classic Country and Western music. At a venue, sometimes overlooked by Indy music lovers, Hoosier Park Racing and Casino is hosting two of the all time great performers of their genre.
On August 21st you can go catch one of the most classic female country voices of all times, Lee Ann Womack. Her voice is not only timeless but is a vocal instrument seemingly used without effort. Expect her to capture the attention of the crowd this Saturday with songs like, “There is a God” and “I may hate myself in the morning.” But check the web and see if you can get a preview of her singing, “I hope you dance.” This is a not only a highly acclaimed female vocalist. She is part of a generation of great story telling Country artists that capture our imagination and offer much to relate to in each and every song. Tickets can be bought at the Hoosier Park Racing and Casino for $25 dollars and up for the indoor venue, The Terrace Showroom. Shows on Saturday start at both 7 PM and 10 PM. Please note that Club Centaur card holders can get 20% off on ticket purchases when you purchase at the Shelby’s Gift Shop at the casino.
As if one Country legend is not enough, Hoosier Park is pulling out all the stops by bringing possibly Country’s biggest living legend to Indiana. On September 15th, catch Merle Haggard, described as the original “Bad Boy of Country Music”. But whatever bad this guy has done, you’ll be quick to forgive him as his performances on the stage are legendary. His classic song writing and uncompromising style make him the one of a kind performer that comes along only once in a lifetime. Maybe best known for his roots in what is referred to as the “Bakersfield, California” sound, he continues to write and perform as if looking to find something better and more pure with each and every attempt. His audiences seem to be the biggest beneficiary at the end of every performance. A younger crowd might not realize it, but this is a man who has cranked out no less than 40 #1 hits over the years. And his recent release, “I am what I am”, really says it all for Merle Haggard for a guy who makes no apologies. Expect nothing but heartfelt greatness from this guy. Tickets are on sale at the Hoosier Park Racing and Casino with prices starting at $30 dollars and bargain hunters can take their Club Centaur card to the gift shop and save an additional 20 % off their bill.
Enjoy the show and make sure you return to share your thoughts on show as we review what is sure to be the two classic Country and Western shows of the summer.
