As you may have guessed, IndyConcerts has a new writer, and I heard she’s hot.
Okay, that’s a lie — I’m hot, but I haven’t heard anyone talking about it lately. I’m Kelly, and I’ve lived in Bloomington, Indiana with a bunny named Disco Biscuit for about four years. Disco is named after the trance fusion jam band Disco Biscuits, and Bisco fans would probably be shocked to hear that I named my bunny months before I ever heard a single Biscuits track.
You see, I first heard of the Disco Biscuits while contemplating my potential attendance at a moe concert where they were opening. I was so delighted with the beautiful randomness of the phrase “disco biscuits” that it never occurred to me that the name might have a meaning. Though I didn’t end up going to the concert, the name stuck with me. When I got Disco a few months later, I put off naming him for over a week while I tried to think of something appropriate, and nothing but Disco Biscuit seemed right.
Later that year, (November 26, 2006, to be exact) the Disco Biscuits played a show at the BlueBird, and I wasn’t about to miss it. I bought a copy of Rocket and a t-shirt, had a great time, and later posted a YouTube vlog about the experience. During the vlog, I told the story of how Disco had been named in a long, convoluted intro before posting my footage from the show. It wasn’t long before a few real Bisco fans showed up and amidst their grousing at me for talking so long before showing the band, they informed me that a disco biscuit is actually a Quaalude. Or an Ecstasy tablet. Or something — it was a bit of a raging debate before I got mad at someone for making fun of my intro and took the video down. I still don’t know which illegal drug my bunny is named after, but I’m definitely glad my mom isn’t hip to it!
Anyway, I guess the point is that I’m Kelly, I like bunnies, I like random things, I like writing, and I like music — that’s why I’m here. I’ve been a professional writer for three years and love it with everything I’ve got, so I’m thrilled to join the talented crew at IndyConcerts. Hopefully I won’t bore you too much.
