Real Estate and Woods Bring Their Unique Brand of Music to Bloomington

One of Indie Rock’s best new bands will be venturing down to Bloomington on March 23. Real Estate will be playing The Bishop with label mates Woods on what will be a pretty amazing double bill. Ticket information can be found here.

If you have not heard of Real Estate, I strongly urge you to check out the New Jersey quartet.  They released their awe inspiring self titled debut late last year and followed that up with the release of the “Reality EP”. Real Estate brings a truly unique sound to the world of Indie music, with what has been described as psychedelic surf pop. I don’t really know where they fall as far as a certain genre, all I know is their music makes me feel good. With upbeat, swooning guitars Real Estate have a very nostalgic 60s sound.

Woodsist label mates Woods also bring a unique sound to the table. I’ve heard comparisons to Fleet Foxes, but Woods’ sound is much less refined and dare I say woodsy.  With Woods you get a very rustic and folky sound and a lot of high pitched vocals. So I don’t really understand the Fleet Foxes comparison, you can’t really compare Woods or Real Estate to any other band. Each bands sound is so unique and they make it their own.

It’s nice to see two really great Indie bands making a stop near the Indy area. I think my fellow Indie nerd LauraF might also be excited about this show. Real Estate is one of my favorite bands, because of how mellow and youthful their music sounds. They don’t sound like any other band and I think that is why they are so unique. Now, how do I get down to Bloomington to see this outstanding show?

Here is a great song by Real Estate entitled “Beach Comber”:
