If you were to mention the name Chazwick Bundick to most chillwave, or even electronic music aficionados, you probably wouldn’t get much of a reaction (at least in terms of artist recognition), but if you mentioned Toro y Moi to those same listeners, there’s a good chance they’d know who you were talking about.
Bundick has been performing under the pseudonym, Toro y Moi, since early 2009, and although his musical career is just beginning, he’s already gained considerable status throughout various underground channels of the music industry. His debut album, Causers of This, is not only well-produced, but its as auditorily appealing as any chillwave album I’ve heard (that goes for Memory Tapes, Washed Out, and Million Young), and I’d urge anyone to give it a listen, or better yet, come out to Radio Radio on August 15th and hear it live and in person.
