And the ACM goes to. .
The Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM) were Sunday night on CBS. Reba McEntire continues to host the awards and this year took some cheap shots at other celebrities. Kirstie Alley, Jesse James and Tiger Woods were just a few that took the hits. Taylor Swift was another celebrity that took a hit but it wasn’t a joke from Reba. Taylor walked away from the MGM without an award this year. However, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood left with their heads held high.
Lady Antebellum walked away with 5 awards out of a possible 7 nominations. Top Vocal Group of the Year, Single Record of the Year and Song of the Year are just to name a few. Lady Antebellum has had a successful two years since their first single, “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore.” Their latest album “Need You Know” is a must have and is hard to kick off the charts. Most albums can’t even kick it off of the number one spot for more than a few days before it takes over again. The albums title song is also hard to kick off the charts both Country and Billboard 200. They performed their latest single, “American Honey” on the awards. It should not be long before they are headlining their own tour and taking over country music more.
Miranda Lambert has finally accepted the recognition she should have received years ago. “White Liar” not only hit number one to give her, her first but she also walked away a top ACM winner. Deserving nothing but the best she walked away with Top Female Vocalist of the Year, Video of the Year for “White Liar” and Album of the Year. Every artist, even Lady Antebellum whose album has charted the best, thought Miranda deserved the award for Album of the Year. Her new single “The House That Built Me” is not only climbing the chart but she gave me cold chills when she performed it live at the awards show. It is about time her music be respected and honored! Like Carrie Underwood told her, “long time coming.”
Speaking of Carrie Underwood she is last but least on the list of winners. She walkedaway with a Triple Crown and Entertainer of the Year. Carrie is the first female to win Entertainer of the Year back to back. Aside from the Dixie Chicks, Carrie is one of the only females to accept this award. The Triple Crown is awarded when you win Top New Artist, Top Female Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year. She showed why she deserved the Triple Crown Award with her “Temporary Home” performance. Carrie is currently on her “Play On” tour and in the news for her wedding coming up this summer in Nashville.
Overall this year everyone got an award they deserved. There were no big disappointments to point out. Though the sound guy should be fired for not turning up Ronnie Dunn’s microphone during Brooks & Dunn’s last performance on the ACM’s. That however is an entirely different story.
