- American voted off the Justin Timberlake look-alike Matt Giraud on Wednesday, but the judges saved him for a least another week.
There you have it. The judges’ save has been used and is no longer in play. While I think Matt deserved saving, I agree he has absolutely no shot of winning this show with performers like Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey and Allison Iraheta ahead of him. That’s not to say he’s not talented – but like I’ve been saying all along – he’s just too much JT. I mean look at the side-by-side photo! Even when he performs he sounds like Justin. I’m sure that comparison will be even more obvious during disco week next week.
In other Idol news, I didn’t get to post my thoughts on this week’s performances, but I’m mad that Lil didn’t get sent home last night. She even said it herself (although she was attempting to defend herself, I’m going to use it against her). She said when she sings something current, she gets accused of being a copycat/sound-alike, and when she tries to make something her own she gets nailed for picking terrible songs. She needs to go home. There is nothing original about her. I am still in shock that she picked to sing The Rose. I can’t possibly imagine her as the American Idol. Send Lil home!
Finally, I have to comment about the Jennifer Hudson and Miley Cyrus performances. Jennifer Hudson was awesome! It made me want to download that single. Also, I’m sure it was quite a nice “I told you so” moment for her since America voted her off when she was on the show. Last, and certainly least, was Miley’s performance of her new single The Climb. Not a bad song – but what was the deal with her outfit and all the smoke? Is she trying to create prom for herself? It was weird and random and I did not enjoy it. Her vocal performance made me think that these Idol finalists all have long careers ahead of them.
