I have been anticipating a new Band of Horses album ever since I listened to their most recent offering, “Cease to Begin”.  Lucky me, I don’t have to wait much longer. The group has announced their third album, “Infinite Arms”, will reach the masses on May 18. One thing that is a bit puzzling is that the album, as of now, doesn’t have a label to be released on.

Famed indie label Sub Pop has distributed the bands two prior albums, 2006’s tremendous debut “Everything All the Time” and the previously mentioned fantastic follow up “Cease to Begin” released in 2007. It remains unclear if the album will be released by Sub Pop, another label, or by the band themselves. In my opinion, Sub Pop will announce the album soon and be behind the release of the highly anticipated third album from the South Carolina rockers.

Lately, the group has added a country edge to their sound and it has been welcomed with open arms. For examples look no further than “The General Specific” or their amazing cover of Grizzly Bear’s “Plans”. With songs like “The Funeral”, “Part One”, “No One’s Gonna Love You”, “Window Blues”, and “Detlef Schrempf”, frontman Ben Bridwell has a knack for triggering one’s emotions. I can only hope for much of the same on their third album.

I can’t put into words how excited I am to be hearing new material from one of my favorite bands. One of indie rock’s better known bands, but far from the forefront, Band of Horses are very workmanlike and continue to plug away and make quality music. When people ask me about music, I tell them to look into Band of Horses and so far they haven’t been disappointed.  I’m sure “Infinite Arms” will be much like the first two albums and deliver the goods.
