American Idol winner Kris Allen’s first single is just as you would expect: sing-songy, sweet, guitar-driven and enthusiastic. “Live Like We’re Dying” is a cover of the Irish band The Script. The song was something Allen had admired from the get-go.
“[The song] was actually one that we had listened to really early on, and we kind of just fell in love with it. Everyone did,” said Allen.
While it’s better than the nauseating Idol single he was forced to release, it still has a similar positive message as “No Boundaries” (ya know, never give up on your dreams; have no regrets in life; etc., etc.). Although I don’t hate the song, I wish he would have released a first single that was an original and not a cover. That’s all we have basically heard Allen sing during his Idol tenure. I also had hopes he would produce something with a little more edge. He’s got some competing to do what with Adam Lambert also set to release an album this November and we all know that Lambert is going to deliver the goods. Let’s hope that Allen’s album has more for us to cling to than sunshine and happiness.
