Jessica Simpson’s country boots aren’t made for walkin. The former pop star was released from the Sony Nashville label after her debut country album, Do you Know, fell flat. After Simpson’s divorce from Nick Lachey in 2005, her music career hit a downward spiral. Her post-breakup pop album, A Public Affair, sold only 300,000 copies – a far cry from her previous album, the platinum-selling In This Skin.
Simpson’s publicist said that she wasn’t necessarily dropped from her label, but she has always been an Epic artist and “was on loan to Sony Nashville for her country album.”
Maybe people got sick of the dumb blonde shtick or perhaps nobody really likes her without Nick, but one thing is certain: no one seems to want her albums – country or otherwise.
