Who’s Who will be watching Super Bowl XLIV this Sunday when the Colts take on The Saints. While most are looking forward to the game, I know a lot of people are buzzing about the halftime show with The Who. According to Rolling Stone, this will be The Who’s first North American performance since 2008, not to mention The Who’s first performance at the Super Bowl. During the consideration of the halftime show, I wonder if the conversation went down similar to this:
We need a band to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show.
The Who.
Yes, Who shall play?
Exactly.
What, no. I’m asking you, Who is playing the Super Bowl?
That’s the band’s name.
That’s who’s name.

No, The Who.

The Who have influenced many musicians with their music. Dave Grohl of Nirvana & Foo Fighters fame, Neal Peart from Rush, Slash of Guns ‘N Roses, and Geddy Lee from Rush are just a few name performers who claim The Who as influential. Many bands , such as Aerosmith, Pearl Jam, and Green Day have mentioned them as an influence as well. As a band that has influenced many, and been the recipient of various honors, this year’s halftime show will undoubtedly blow some minds, and possible ears. For those of you that may be unaware, The Who was credited with having performed the loudest concert ever at 126 decibels!
I’ve heard there are talks of The Who: Rockband video game. Apparently if this were to be created, it would be similar in detail to The Beatles: Rockband game with various backgrounds or ‘dreamscapes’. I wonder if MTV Games will provide backup instruments, so you can destroy your gear after each performance in true Who fashion.
For you movie-goers, there is also an ‘Untitled Keith Moon Project’ that is in production starring Mike Meyers. According to imdb.com, this film will be “A look at the life and death of Keith Moon (Myers), whose innovative drumming and penchant for destroying his kit made the Who one of the most influential, rebellious bands of the 1970s.”
