Concert Review: The Avett Brothers at White River State Park 10.1.11

Concert Review: The Avett Brothers at White River State Park 10.1.11
There are no words to describe the epic experience that was The Avett Brothers’ concert on Saturday, October 1st at White River State Park.  I feel as though my heart exploded with joy, my mind was blown and my face was completely rocked off!   Now, don’t get me wrong, I may be somewhat partial to this spectacular band because I have been following them since 2006 when I first saw them at...

Concert Review: John Mayer at Verizon Wireless Music Center

Concert Review: John Mayer at Verizon Wireless Music Center
It was a beautiful night on the lawn last Sunday for a great concert by John Mayer and The Avett Brothers. A set that drew largely from his latest album, Battle Studies, which, lets be honest, is way different, and maybe…not as great, as his other stuff, Mayer still managed to put on a show with enough variety to please even the most fair-weather fan (see complete set-list below). The best moments...

Indianapolis Concert Preview: John Mayer at Verizon Wireless Music Center

Indianapolis Concert Preview: John Mayer at Verizon Wireless Music Center
John Mayer just might be my favorite artist of all time. I imagine that one day when I’m old, wrinkly and un-cool, John Mayer will be the answer to a lot of questions. “What kind of music did people listen to back in the day?” Or, “Who were you unhealthily obsessed with when you were young?” Mostly because I can’t really see myself listening to hardcore dubstep or hip-hop when I’m 45…okay,...

Indianapolis Concert: John Mayer

Indianapolis Concert: John Mayer
John Mayer recently announced plans for his 2010 summer tour, and fortunately for us, he’ll be making a stop at Verizon Wireless Music Center in Noblesville on August 15. He’s just about to begin a six-week stint overseas, and then he’ll head back to the states to kick off his US tour in July. Although I didn’t love his latest album, Battle Studies, I did catch him in Louisville...

DJ AM dead at 36

DJ AM was found dead in his New York apartment on Friday. He was 36. Police broke in to his apartment after a friend knocked on the door and there was no answer. AM had friends concerned when he missed a flight to Vegas to perform a routine set at The Palms Casino. He hadn’t been heard from in several days. He was found in bed wearing sweatpants and surrounded by a crack pipe and prescription...

Music News: Mayercraft sets sail

Music News: Mayercraft sets sail
John Mayer is taking his show to the high seas. His Carnival cruise shift, the Mayercraft, set sail last Friday. Mayer dressed like Captain Stubing to welcome his 3,000 worshippers. The four day cruise is going to Mexico and back to California with Mayer performing each night. I love John Mayer and his music but really, a Mayer cruise? I’m not so sure how I feel about that. I guess the outfit...

2009 Grammy Performances & Highlights – Hours 3 & 4

Yes.  Hours 3 & 4.  This show is WAY too long.  While there were a few highlights, in no way did this broadcast merit the 3.5 hours of prime time space that it got.  All in all, I didn’t think there were too many surprises, and no major issues with the show.  Best Male Pop Vocal Tough category.  John Mayer, Say comes out victorious.  He beat out legends like Paul McCartney and...

This Is My Confession

After seven years of piano lessons, I can’t play, although I’m a sucker for a song or musical performance that features the piano.  I am a passable singer, and while I know I wouldn’t make it past the Idol judges, I think I’m really good at karaoke.  To give you an idea of my musical range, the last show I saw in Indy was Gym Class Heroes at the Murat.  They rocked, and in my opinion, they...
